Urban fashionistas looking for a new way to update their closet should check out Frank and Oak. The Montreal-based direct-to-consumer retailer is devoted to sustainable manufacturing and shipping practices and a funky (yet fun) approach to closet staples. Their goal is to combine classic styles, modern cuts, and innovative materials—made with as little environmental impact as possible.

There’s a great selection of items for both men and women, but the monthly Style Box is the best way to keep your closet staples up to date. Simply fill out a questionnaire, and the label’s style consultants pick out some items for you. You’ll be notified via email when the choices are ready, then all you have to do is follow the link to the website and accept the choices, veto any items you might not like, or swap a pick out for something else. You have 48 hours to make your selection, and then you’ll be shipped a box straight to your door.

Frank and Oak

Your box arrives within days, and you have seven days to try the stuff out. If you like it, then there’s nothing else to do but hang it in your closet. If you don’t, the return process is simple. Just go to the F and O website, print out a shipping return label, and mail it back within seven days. That’s it. Your account is credited within days and you’re ready to start again. If you choose to send everything in the box back, there is a $25 styling fee.

Using repurposed materials for both its materials and packaging, Frank and Oak is committed to minimizing our impact by prioritizing recycled fabrics and responsible practices throughout its supply chain. It began in 2017 with a commitment to making five percent of its clothes with minimal impact materials or processes. The following year they upped that number to 30 percent  by introducing more organic and eco-friendly methods of both manufacturing and shipping.  By the end of 2019, Frank and Oak estimates that approximately 50 percent of its products will be made with minimal impact processes.
