If you’re looking for an affordable laptop that’s great for writing, gaming, or streaming, right now you can get the Lenovo IdeaPad 320 at Walmart for less than $300. It’s rare to find that kind of a deal in the middle of February, so you may want to jump on this bargain while you can.
This is a refurbished IdeaPad, but the sleek silhouette and large, 15-inch display make it feel like a brand-new, much pricier unit. It’s full-sized, with a simple but practical layout unadorned but for the Lenovo logo at lower left. The webcam is located on the upper bezel, so it’s ideal for webcasting and chat. At less than one inch thick, the IdeaPad 320 is relatively slim, especially compared to other models in the same class.
Also impressive for an economy-class laptop: the IdeaPad 320 has plenty of plug-ins for all kinds of memory cards and devices. The left side features the power jack, an HDMI port, two USB 3.0 ports, one USB Type-C port, headphone jack, and a 4-in-1 memory card reader. The right side offers a security lock slot, and an almost-quaint DVD drive, which some reviewers claimed came in handy for uploading software.
The anti-glare, LED-backlit display has a resolution of 1366 x 768, which is technically “HD” but rather a tricky assertion when you consider that’s the lowest resolution you can get on a device of this size. If sharp graphics and vibrant colors are intrinsic to your computing experience, you really want a laptop that’s at least 1080p, or 1920 x 1080.
Still, it’s the value that’s the hook here. The IdeaPad 320 runs on Windows 10 and features an AMD A12-9720P Quad Core processor; it comes with 8GB of RAM and a 1TB 5,400-rpm hard disk drive. Lenovo claims a battery life of 4.5 hours, too.
The IdeaPad 320 has been reviewed nearly 200 times on Walmart.com and ends up with a rating of 3.5 out of five stars, Still, when buying anything online it’s important to keep in mind that oftentimes, the only people who post reviews are those who have complaints. Consider instead that there are nearly three times as many five-star evaluations as one-star reviews, and you know that for this price point you’re likely getting a great value on a quality, affordable laptop.
As with any refurbished gadget purchase, we recommend kicking down the extra money for a Walmart Protection Plan, which covers accidental damage like cracked screens and liquid damage, as well as battery, mechanical and electrical failure from normal use. The peace of mind is definitely worth it.
Bottom line: Don’t expect to rule the world with this laptop. But if you’re looking for a full Windows 10 machine priced under 300 bucks, that runs and looks great, plays games, streams video, and lets you chat with far-flung pals, you cold spend a lot more and get far less than the Lenovo IdeaPad 320.
